Woke up and headed out the door with water and soda bread for my breakfast. It was like I was in prison. Well I was off to a sort of prison. Got to work. Began the day as usual. Started working on installing vinyl in a condo. Moved out all the appliances. I called my brother back home. He was at the hospital with Aunt Marie. Mam wasn't doing so good again today. She was in a sleep after an alert evening yesterday. She was unresponsive. He said it wasn't looking so good. He also mentioned she probably will pull through like before. This was the first time he mentioned hope. Talked about other things for a bit and back to work. A couples of minutes later I got a call from Mary. I was going to let her know that I had just talked to Eamon but she was in tears. She gave me the news that mam had just died. It took the wind out of me for a second or two. Had the usual talk of death. Mary has brought me the news of all my families deaths over the years. Now I am thinking maybe she is the angel of death. Well she certainly is the grim reaper.
I called the good woman and let her know of the news. She went to tears. She went ahead and got on line and started booking the tickets. I had to finish the job I started today. Paul and I quickly finished up the vinyl and put the stuff back. He gave me a hug. I set him up for the week ahead and left for home. I let Roger know that mam had died. I got so many calls from Ireland, England and my home town here Seattle. It is great to have so many caring for you in this moment in your life.
Got home relaxed. Let Realta know of her grandmothers demise. She went to tears. Eamon called back in tears too. My God I think I am a cold fish after all. We will leave for Ireland first thing in the morning. Packed my bag a few minutes ago. John and Shannon came by for the condolence visit. They are great. We had a good chat about Ireland and the wakes there.
I now sit at the computer with my mind on my beautiful mother. I will miss her laugh and the jokester she was. I will miss my morning talks on the way to work. I'm sure more will come to mind as I touch down in Ireland.
May the road rise up to meet you
May the wind be always at your back
May the sun shine warm upon your face now,
May the rains fall soft upon your fields
And until we meet again
And until we meet again
May God hold you in the palm of his hand
May God hold you in the palm of his hand
May our children and their descendants
Be the ones to find a lasting peace
May their hopes and dreams become united
May the past be left for those who hate
And until we meet again
And until we meet again
May love and trust find a way to make a stand
May love and trust find a way to make a stand
May the road rise up to meet you
May the wind be always at your back
May the sun shine warm upon your face
May the rains fall soft upon your fields
May this world and all its wonders
Be a home to all humanity
May the people find a common purpose
May we help one another to survive
And until we meet again
And until we meet again
May Mother Earth pour her heart into our land
May Mother Earth pour her heart into our land
