25th-May-2009 06:19 pm - The Day Of Memory
The day has come

Relaxed away the morning for a bit. Then we headed over to Little Si for a wee stroll up.
We parked in the overflow lot down below and headed up. We decided to give it a bit of a push. A quick steady pace.

On and on. We were behind a line of people slowing down our assent. But at the trail got steeper one by one they pulled off to the side to get a breath of air or a water.

The last 15 minutes we pushed it keeping right up behind fit seasoned hikers. And one by one they pulled off to let us pass. This was the first time we passed people the entire way up. Got to the top in 47 minutes.
Our view up there was Mailbox Peak off to the left of this photo.

and Mount Si with Haystack Rock sticking up like an appendix.

Too early for lunch we have a snack instead. Then we gun it back down.

We get to the bottom in 35 minutes. Then back to the Jeep.

Looking at my journal here we have now hiked up Little Si three times in eleven months.

June 15th 2008  80 minutes to the top and 58 coming down.
April 5th  2009    56 minutes to the top and 49 coming down.
May 25th 2009    47 minutes to the top and 35 coming down.

So a great improvement in all. Maybe someday in the future we will try to beat todays record.
Stopped into REI for shorts on the way back. None. Costco is closed for Memorial Day so we went to Trader Joe's for supplies.

Dinner by Natasha and dessert by me.

Now I wonder what's next for the day?

5th-Apr-2009 09:47 pm - Little Si and an evening of pussies
The day has come

Woke up early. This time I had pulled the machine off of the locker. Had the breakkie. Then we headed out to hike up Little Si.  I called Ciara back in Ireland. She will be in Seattle in the coming weeks. Michael and Dean too.

We did this hike in June last year so I had a wee look back at my journal. Parked in the parking Lot. Not too many people out this early. Well it is just right at the beginning of hiking season for many I suppose.

Off up the trail like two pumas we go.

We just keep up a great pace leaving many in our tracks.

We make it to the top exactly 30% quicker than we did it last year. Not so shabby.

We eat our snack there talking to a woman who had a lot of injuries on her hands and feet from been clumsy really.

Then off back down we go,

We make it down just over 16% quicker than last year.

Back to Seattle we go. We stop into Whole Foods for our lunch. A nice salad and I'm done.
Home.
I take my motorcycle out for a ride today. The sun was shining and I was so happy. I bring Realta to work on the back of it. She was a wee embarrassed to pull up like a dirty old biker.
Headed over to Target to buy two European size carry on bags for our trip. The bag allowance there is way smaller than here. We will be bringing hardly anything with us. I always travel light anyway.
We have a smashing dinner by Natasha. Ok I did help a little.
Next up we watched a couple of episodes of "Californication" season 2.

Then I head out later to feed the Russian cats. I hang out there for a bit waiting to see the she cat. She hides from most people. She does pop her head out every once in awhile to let me know she is alive. I didn't see her tonight. The he cat was all over the place.

15th-Jun-2008 07:09 pm - Little Si
The day has come
Woke up early. I headed up to the QFC to get a few provisions for the day. Natasha and Realta wished me a Happy Fathers Day. Ate breakfast. We will do a hike today. I packed 25 lbs of shite into a backpack so I could get a good workout on the trail. We headed off over to North Bend.
Today we will do the "Little Si" hike. We park the Jeep and off up the trail we go.

It started off on a steep climb up to a nice treed area. Then it leveled out for a wee bit.

It was a good old burn to the top after that.

It was crowded at the top. We looked at the view for a bit.

Then we went back down a few meters and had lunch on a rock edge with a great view.

Packed up the bag and headed down again.

Going down was easy. We made it to the bottom in just less than an hour. Going up took one hour and twenty minutes. It was five miles round trip with a 1200' cumulative gain. This was the largest gain for us to date. We beat my record from the Iceberg Lake trail in Glacier National Park with Barry by a couple of feet. Back along I-90 we go stopping off at Costco for more shite.

Edgar sent me a text to wish me a Happy Birthday and Happy Father's Day.

Had dinner at home.
Carmen came by. Nilla wafers, lemonade and a chat.
